The Portland girls wrestling team didn’t slow down over the holiday break — they turned it into a launching pad. Competing against some of the toughest talents in the state, the Raiders closed out 2025 and kicked off the new year with back-to-back podium finishes, showcasing depth, grit, and championship-level performances at two major tournaments.
The action began December 28 at the Lady Mat Cat Wrestling Invitational in Montague, one of Michigan’s most competitive girls tournaments, featuring 59 schools and stacked brackets — including a weight class loaded with five returning All-State wrestlers. Portland rose to the challenge in a big way, recording the best finish in program history with a fourth-place team showing and 76 total points. Georgia Stahl led the charge, scoring 20 points and battling her way to a runner-up finish. Lilli Teachworth and Rylan Johns were right behind her, each collecting 17 points and earning third-place finishes in their brackets. Jonnie Miller added another strong performance with 15 points and a fourth-place finish, while Alli Teachworth rounded out the group of scorers with seven points.
Just days later, the Raiders were back on the mat at the Dewitt Girls Invite on January 2 — and once again left their mark. Portland powered its way to a third-place team finish, with every wrestler contributing points in a true team effort. Lilli Teachworth impressed at 105 pounds, scoring 18 points and finishing second. Kyla Fuller added valuable points at 125 pounds with a sixth-place finish, while Jonnie Miller continued her strong stretch with 13 points and a fifth place showing at 155 pounds. The night belonged to Portland’s champions. Georgia Stahl dominated at 115 pounds, Maddi Pohl captured gold at 170 pounds, and Rylan Johns delivered a statement win at 235 pounds — each piling up more than 20 points on the way to first-place finishes.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Raiders now turn their focus to a dual meet at Mason on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Friday night tournament in Fowlerville beginning at 5:00 p.m. As the calendar turns, one thing is clear — Portland girls wrestling is rolling into 2026 ready to compete.
