Girls wrestling continues to surge nationwide, and the CAAC has taken meaningful steps to support that growth locally. For the first time, girls wrestling was recognized independently of the boys programs this season, giving Portland High School’s athletes their own opportunity to compete for a league title.

The inaugural girls championship tournament, held February 8 at Eaton Rapids, showcased the strength and depth of the Portland roster. Facing a field of 20 teams, the Raiders delivered an impressive performance and secured a second‑place finish. Every Portland wrestler contributed team points, helping the Raiders finish just 4.5 points behind champion Holt and well ahead of the third‑place team by a 20‑point margin.

Two Raiders claimed individual league titles: Rylan Johns (235) and Georgia Stahl (115). Strong podium finishes followed with Jonnie Miller (155), Maddi Pohl (170), and Lilli Teachworth (105) each placing third, while Amari Adler (120) earned fourth. Alli Teachworth (130) and Izzy Fedewa (110) added valuable points throughout the day with determined efforts in their brackets.

In addition to the league championship event, the CAAC further strengthened its commitment to the sport by supporting dedicated girls duals and multi‑dual competition dates throughout the season—an important step in building both participation and team identity. Portland made the most of those opportunities, finishing the year with a 9–5 dual record and going undefeated against every CAAC White opponent they faced.

Portland now turns its attention to the postseason. On Sunday, February 15, the Raiders travel to Howell High School for the Girls District Finals—only the second such event in Michigan and the first to crown official district champions. The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to regionals. Wrestling begins at 11:30 a.m., with live results available on the FloSports app.

Good luck to these Lady Raiders as they continue their historic season.
