Portland Football tops Montague in Regular Season Finale

Portland High School hosted defending Division 6 state champion Montague on Friday night for both teams’ final games of the regular season.

After exchanging interceptions in their first possessions, Portland would get on the scoreboard first on a 14-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Haden Getchell. Senior kicker Madison Luxmore would nail the extra point and the Raiders were up to an early 7-0 lead.

After the Raider defense forced Montague to turn the ball over on downs at the Portland 33, Portland would drive the ball down the field and strike again. This time on a two-yard touchdown run by senior running back Reis Phillips. Luxmore’s point after was good and Portland extended their lead to 14-0 with 2:40 remaining in the first.

Neither team would score in their next possessions.

Montague would finally get on the scoreboard with 7:09 remaining in the second quarter when senior quarterback Andrew Kooi would run it in from one yard out. Montague failed on the point after and the score was 14-6

The Raiders would score one more time before halftime. With 20 seconds left in the second quarter, Getchell would connect with senior receiver Ethan Patrick on a 33-yard touchdown pass. Luxmore’s point after was good and the Raiders would extend their lead to 21-6.

With 4:07 remaining in the third, Portland senior running back Caden Galey would score on a one-yard touchdown run capping off a 69-yard Portland offensive drive. Luxmore’s extra point made the score 28-6.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Portland offense would begin a drive from their own five. With only 1:41 remaining in the game, Luxmore would sail a 26-yard field goal through the uprights to extend Portland’s lead to 31-6, and ensure a Portland win.
