Portland Civic Players to host Burger Night Fundraiser as Marquee Project is under way
On July 14 from 5-7:30 PM the Portland Civic Players is hosting a Burger Night Marquee fundraiser at the Portland VFW. For only $10 you will get a burger, fries and a dessert along with some amazing entertainment from Kelly Sandula-Gruner and Dan Templin - known as Clique Vocals. Dine In, take out or phone in orders will be available.
On June 19, Michigan Signs and Graphics began the work on the marquee at the Portland Community Theater which has been owned and operated by the Portland Civic Players since 1971. The marquee was original to the building, built in 1948 (opened in 1949) and was in very poor shape with a great deal of rust, knob and tube wiring and a few bird nests.
The work on the new marquee - which will look exactly like the original with some tech upgrades - is expected to take about a month to a month and a half to complete. In the meantime, the organization continues to fundraise for the project and is about $19,000 short of having it completely funded. They are very appreciative of the support the project has received and is looking forward to the new marquee being a ‘bright light’ in the community! There are many ways the community can help the group make it to the finish line in the project. Along with the Burger Night, you can “purchase a lightbulb” on the new marquee, make a general donation to the building fund or get a Platinum Club Membership (limited in number). Visit https://portlandcivicplayers.com/littletheater-bigdreams/ to find out more about the project and how you can donate. See you at the theater!
