2020 has been hard on all of us. Many businesses have been closed or reduced in how they are able to do business. The performing arts have not been immune to the effects COVID has had on the community. Portland’s own community theater, Portland Community Theater, the home of the Portland Civic Players have been unable to do their thing for all of 2020.
The group was originally slated to perform “Our Town” in the spring of 2020. It was just as what was happening with COVID was ramping up and they had to postpone, then cancel their spring production. They continued on with the well-known Summer Theater program although it was seriously scaled back and culminated in a Theater Showcase at the Bandshell in town. The Fall 2020 show, scheduled to be 1776, was also postponed to the Fall of 2021 due to shutdown requirements.
Needless to say, the little theater in our town, that counts on memberships and performance income, has had no income for all of 2020. In order to make up for some of the income loss, they are holding a silent online auction with several themed baskets. These baskets having amazing items that are either bought locally or have been hand-made locally in order to also support other business in the community. You will find themes such as a “City of Two Rivers”, “Smitten With the Mitten”, “North Pole/Polar Express”, Spa Basket, Care Care and a New Drivers Emergency Basket to name a few.
Want to help out and get an awesome basket in the process (if you are the winning bid!) go check it out HERE.
Bidding will close on December 18.
