Portland Baseball tops Lakewood, split with league favorite Lansing Catholic


Game 1: Big 3rd Inning Propels Portland Varsity to Victory Over Lakewood

The Portland Varsity Baseball team took on the Lakewood Vikings on Monday night. The first game the Raiders defeated the Vikings 9-2. The Raiders had a big third inning where they scored seven runs. They saw singles from Marc Nobis, Carson Martin, Gunner Williams & Barret Brennan and Marky Meyers also added a double in that inning.


Offensively the Raiders were led by Barrett Brennan going 2-2 at the plate with a double & a single. The Raiders stole 7 bases during the game! Marky Meyers got the start for the Raiders on the mound, but the Raiders were able to showcase their pitching depth by also throwing Gunner Williams, Carson Martin, Paul Roberts & Evan Thelen throughout the game. The combined pitchers had twelve strikeouts and only allowed one hit.

Game 2: The Raiders led 7-4 but the game called after 4 ½ innings.

Once again, the Raiders showcased their pitching by leading off the game with lefthander Marc Nobis but brought in Gunner Williams, Caden Thelen and Tyler Smith to put in time on the mound. Marky Meyers led the Raiders going 2-2 at the plate. The Raiders had a combined 6 hits during the 2nd game.


Raiders Split With League Favorite Lansing Catholic Central

Game 1

The Raiders fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 0-2 loss to Lansing Catholic. Catholic took the lead on a double in the first inning. Both sides showed strong pitching and dualed back and forth the entire game until Catholic scored one run in the top of the seventh. Caden Thelen led the Raiders going 2-3 at the plate while Brady Krause & Gunner Williams each added a hit for Portland.


Game 2

The Raiders bats came alive with 8 hits for the 3-1 win over Lansing Catholic. . Marc Nobis & Evan Thelen went 2-3 while Caden Thelen, Marky Meyers, Carson Martin and Brody Moore each contributed with a hit. Caden Thelen threw a complete game for the Raiders allowing three hits and striking out six.


The Portland Varsity is now 7-2 overall and 1-1 in CAAC White. Varsity's next up game is Thursday (4/27) @ home against Williamston.
