On Saturday, several members of the Portland High School track and field team traveled to Hamilton High School for the MHSAA LP Division 2 Finals.

Senior Brady Rowe won the 400m title with a new meet record of 47.9.  The previous record was 47.94 and was set in 2009 by Stephen Murphy of Madison Heights. Rowe won this year’s event by almost a full second. Second place was Gavin Shaw of Detroit Country Day with a time of 48.72.

Rowe was the favorite and started in lane four. He trailed after the first 200 meters in 5th place but once he got through turns three and four, he was in the lead and never trailed again. He finished easily ahead of Shaw to clinch the 400-meter championship.

Rowe had a phenomenal season breaking the 400-meter school record numerous times while also breaking the 200- and 800-meter dashes. He also helped break the 4x200 and 4x800 records, and helped break the 4x100 and 4x400 school records last year while helping the 4x400 team of Mason McGregor, Chris Battley, Nolan Zbytowski, and Brady Rowe break the school record and (then) 3rd fastest Division 2 4x400 time of 3:20.72 to win the State Title.

Rowe plans to continue running for Saginaw Valley State University next year.
