On Monday night, the Portland High School volleyball team traveled to Hastings to take on Belding in the first round of MHSAA Districts. Portland swept Belding winning the first three sets 25-15, 25-15, and 25-19.

With the win, Portland advanced to face Ionia on Wednesday night in the District Semi-Finals. After a slow start and dropping the first set to Ionia 25-12, Portland bounced back in the second set earning a 25-22 victory.

Ionia would win the third set 25-22 pushing the match to a fourth set in the best of five format.

Despite strong play and multiple lead changes, Ionia would end up picking up a 25-23 win in the fourth set, eliminating Portland from the post season.

According to a post on the PHS Volleyball Facebook page, regarding the contest with Ionia, “Alivia Densmore led the offense with 19 kills, Lauren Rowe with 10 kills and Breckyn Werner adding 7 kills and 2 blocks. Molly Johnson led the defense with 26 digs, Savanna Dennany with 13 and Ava Guilford adding 12 digs. Jessie Whitford tallied 42 set assists for the night and 14 digs.”

The post went on to say that the Raiders finished the season 24-14-4.
