PHS Softball drops two to Okemos, takes two from Ionia

The Portland High School softball team is currently 4-2 on the season. After opening the season with two decisive wins over Olivet, the Raiders lost two games to Okemos on Saturday,
and defeated Ionia in two games on Tuesday.
Game 1: Okemos 7, Portland 2
Okemos opened the scoring in the first after Bane grounded out, scoring one run.
An error extended the Okemos lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Bane earned the win for Okemos. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out 14 and walking five. Bella Spitzley took the loss for Portland Varsity Raiders. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking four.
Spitzley led Portland Varsity Raiders with one run batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Anastasia Seidelman, Bailee Fish, and Spitzley each collected one hit for Portland Varsity Raiders. Spitzley led Portland Varsity Raiders with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
Okemos accumulated 10 hits in the game. Warren, Tsai, and Arends each collected two hits for Okemos. Warren and Tsai each drove in two runs for Okemos. Okemos stole four bases in the game.
Game 2: Okemos 11, Portland 10
Bats were blistered on Saturday, but Portland Varsity Raiders couldn't quite get the job done against Okemos and lost 11-10. Okemos collected 14 hits, while Portland Varsity Raiders had eight.
Portland Varsity Raiders fought back after falling down by five runs in the third inning. The comeback fell just short though. Portland Varsity Raiders closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, an error, a double, a single, a single, and an error.
A ground out by Tsai put Okemos on the board in the top of the first.
Portland Varsity Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Anastasia Seidelman grounded into a fielder's choice, Veda Smith singled, and Anna Morris walked, each scoring one run.
Okemos flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by L Walworth that drove in two.
Okemos extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Kattaus and Arends.
Cook earned the win for Okemos. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and 10 runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking seven. Molli Miilu took the loss for Portland Varsity Raiders. The starting pitcher went seven innings, allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 14 hits, striking out one and walking none.
Willa Almy and Miilu each collected two hits for Portland Varsity Raiders. Seidelman, Morris, Almy, and Smith each drove in one run for Portland Varsity Raiders. Seidelman paced Portland Varsity Raiders with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
Okemos piled up 14 hits in the game. Kattaus provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Okemos with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Walworth and Kattaus each collected three hits for Okemos. Warren, Bane, and Arends each collected multiple hits for Okemos.
Game 1: Portland 15, Ionia 2
Portland Varsity Raiders got on the board in the top of the second inning after Veda Smith singled to right field, and Molli Miilu grounded out, each scoring one run.
Portland Varsity Raiders added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Claire Lyon hit a sacrifice fly, Ionia committed an error, and Anastasia Seidelman singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Portland Varsity Raiders scored six runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. A steal of home scored one run, an error scored one run, Seidelman singled, scoring two runs, Smith singled, scoring one run, and Bella Spitzley singled, scoring one run.
Spitzley earned the win for Portland Varsity Raiders. The starter allowed seven hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none. A Bowen took the loss for Ionia. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on 10 hits, striking out one and walking two.
Portland Varsity Raiders accumulated 17 hits in the game. Autumn Reffitt drove the middle of the lineup, leading Portland Varsity Raiders with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Lilly Thelen, Smith, and Spitzley each collected three hits for Portland Varsity Raiders. Seidelman, Bailee Fish, and Miilu each collected multiple hits for Portland Varsity Raiders. Rylee Miller paced Portland Varsity Raiders with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Portland Varsity Raiders were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Miller made the most plays with seven.
A Schmid and A Barna each collected two hits for Ionia. M Stoakes and Barna each drove in one run for Ionia.
Game 2: Portland 14, Ionia 0
Molli Miilu drove in five runs on two hits to lead Portland Varsity Raiders past Ionia 14-0 on Tuesday. Miilu doubled in the third inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring two.
Portland Varsity Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Claire Lyon singled to center field, and Autumn Reffitt grounded out, each scoring one run.
A fielder's choice by Miilu, a single by Bella Spitzley, and a single by Lilly Thelen helped Portland Varsity Raiders extend their early lead in the second.

Spitzley earned the win for Portland Varsity Raiders. The hurler gave up five hits and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none. A Doown took the loss for Ionia. The pitcher went four innings, allowing 14 runs (13 earned) on 12 hits, striking out one and walking five.
Portland Varsity Raiders amassed 12 hits in the game. Miller, Reffitt, Spitzley, and Miilu each collected two hits for Portland Varsity Raiders. Anastasia Seidelman led Portland Varsity Raiders with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
A Bowen led Ionia with two hits in three at bats.
