The Portland High varsity golf team has one remaining rung on the ladder to climb in order to reach the title rug of the “2021 CAAC White Division Boys Golf Championship.”
The Raiders pursuit of capturing the 2021 title was importantly improved by earning their third consecutive first place jamboree finish with a five stroke victory over Lansing Catholic Central. Played at the Raiders home course the Portland Country Club’s back nine-holes, the Raiders shot a team score of 164 to LCC’s 169. Eaton Rapids took third with a team score of 180 to earn the third spot in the team seeding positions (with Portland and Lansing Catholic) in next week’s eighteen-hole divisional tournament. Charlotte was fourth with a 200, Ionia came in fifth place with a 203 and Lansing Sexton finished with 223.
Scoring for the Raiders was: Isaac Honsowitz who shot a one-over par 37 and took match medalist honors. CJ Miller was right behind Isaac shooting a two-over par 38. Haden Getchell card a solid nine-hole round of 43. Luke Nobis and Josh Rutkowski each had rounds of 46 for the Raiders.
With the 2021 CAAC White Divisional Championship on the line, the six divisional teams will meet next Tuesday May 25th at the Emerald Golf Course near St. Johns for an eighteen-hole tournament to determine its top team and the all-league and honorable mention golfers for the season.
