PAHS to host "Spring Into the Past" event April 30th and May 1st

"Spring Into the Past" is the annual event of the Tri-River Historical Museum Network that received the 2021 State Award for Special Programs/Events from the Historical Society of Michigan!

Over 30 museums or historical societies of Barry, Eaton, Ionia, Kent and Montcalm counties participate the same hours on the first weekend in May so people can visit several museums on the same day. This year's event takes place on April 30 from 11-5 and May 1sr from 12-5.

The 2022 theme is "Celebrating Women" to depict the many "hats" that women have worn over the centuries as they serve their families in the home or community and fight for equality in many different ways. This year the Portland Area Historical Society will have a display in the Portland Theater on Maple Street, which the theater group has graciously allowed us to use. There will be a short video in addition to the displays. There will also be items for sale. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Many of you picked up a Tri-River booklet at the Red Mill during Community Days. Booklets will also be available at our April 26th meeting at 144 Kent Street and at the Theater on the days of the event. The booklets are the 2020 edition as new books were not printed during the pandemic. The booklets list all the museums in the network although Barry County and Alton have closed.
