Owen Moore Named September Student-Athlete of the Month

Owen Moore, a freshman on the Portland High School Cross Country team has been selected as the Portland Beacon and J-Dubb’s Signature Subs Student-Athlete of the month for September 2022.

In her nomination of Moore, coach Ariel Davids told the Beacon, “Owen is a freshman this year and has transitioned into High School Cross Country in an outstanding way. Owen has worked incredibly hard this last summer building mileage and aiming to run sub 20 minutes in his first 5k. Owen exceeded all expectations and ran an 18:59. In his most recent race on September 28, Owen ran an 18:07. Owen is currently our #1 runner on Varsity and continues to break through any barriers.”

Davids added, “Owen works incredibly hard to achieve all of his personal goals in Cross Country all while maintaining A's in the classroom. Owen has been a great addition to the team and to PHS. We are incredibly excited to continue to see Owen's times drop and to see his successes in his academic career.”

To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must attend either Portland High School or St. Patrick School, and be a member of a varsity sports program or school-sponsored athletic club at his/her school. Nominations may be made by a member of their high school coaching staff, athletic director, principal, or a school recognized student government organization at his/her school. Nominations are also accepted from The Portland Beacon contributing writers.

The monthly winner is selected by a panel of Beacon contributors. The winner receives a free sub thanks to our sponsor, J-Dubb’s Signature Subs.

Monthly winners are entered into the student-athlete of the year contest. The winner for the year receives a party platter from J-Dubb’s Signature Subs.
