Stephen A. Fabiano, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 1, 1955, in Lansing, Steve was raised with strong family values and a tireless work ethic. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Fabiano; his mother and father-in-law, Bill and Mary Sandborn; and his brother-in-law, Joe Mileski.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Cindy, and their three children, John (Joren) Fabiano, Mary (Bill) Nurenberg, and Mark (Toni) Fabiano. He was the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren—Jacob, Benjamin, Connor, Isabel, Dominic, Aubrey, Adam, Kaitlyn, Alex, Cole, Brooklyn, Evan, and Grant—who were his greatest joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister Ginny (Mike) Flynn and brother Paul (Leslie) Fabiano, as well as his brother-in-law Mike (Beth) Sandborn and sisters-in-law Sue (Ray) Cheatham, Patricia (Duane) Smith, and Pamela Mileski. In addition, Steve leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Together, Steve and Cindy built a lasting legacy in mid-Michigan through their many business ventures. Their dedication and vision brought to life Fabiano’s Restaurant and Lounge in Portland, Fabiano’s of Westphalia, Westside Party Store in Portland, Fabiano’s Grocery and Deli in Wacousta, Grand River Storage Company, Fabiano’s Eagle Inn, and Fabiano’s Riverhouse. Through these businesses, they not only served their communities but also created welcoming places where countless friendships and memories were made.

Alongside his business accomplishments, Steve lived a life of service and courage as a firefighter. He began as a volunteer with the City of Portland in 1979, later joining the Grand Ledge Fire Department in 1999 as a full-time firefighter, where he rose to the rank of Captain. In 2003, he was promoted to Fire Chief of Lookingglass Fire Department. He retired in 2013 as Assistant Fire Chief from Delta Township Fire Department, leaving behind a respected legacy of leadership and commitment to protecting others.

Steve was also an avid golfer—any chance he had, he could be found out on the course. He enjoyed playing pickleball and loved taking spontaneous trips with Cindy and their many friends. Over the years, countless laughs, adventures, and shenanigans filled his days, creating cherished memories for all who shared them with him.

Above all, Steve will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his generous spirit, and his unwavering strength. His life was one of hard work, devotion, laughter, and service—a life well lived, and a man deeply loved.

Visitation will be held at Lehman Funeral Home in Portland on Sunday, September 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, at Believers Church on Grand River Ave, followed by a luncheon at Royal Scot Banquet Center from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BAMF Health, whose exceptional care provided Steve with three additional years of quality life and precious time with those he loved.
