Sandra M. (Slowins) Miller, of Portland, Michigan passed away on April 29, 2025 in Lowell, Michigan. She was born on August 11, 1936 in Lake Odessa, Michigan to Donald F. and Crystal L. (Brake) Slowins. The Slowins family moved to Portland in 1937 and Sandra attended Portland Brush Street School from kindergarten though 12th grade and she graduated as Valedictorian of her Class of 1954.
She was first employed as a secretary at Allen Hughes Insurance Agency in Portland and then went on to work at Maynard Allen State Bank.
Sandra married James J. Miller of Fowler, MI on June 13, 1959 and they resided at 106 Donna Drive for many years. They were members of St. Patrick Catholic Church and were married for 50 years.
Sandra was a homemaker and loving mother to their two children, Carolyn and David. She later returned to work part time at Snyder Insurance Agency and then at Builders Lumber Supply Co. of Portland.
In retirement, Jim and Sandra lived at their cottage at Hardy Dam on the Muskegon River near Big Rapids and White Cloud. They enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling through Northern Michigan. They made several trips to California and Washington State and took up wood crafting while traveling the circuit for several years. In her later years, Sandra lived at the Laurels of Kent where she enjoyed doing puzzles.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Miller on April 8, 2009; brother, Grayden (Ann) Slowins; and brother-in-law, James Eder. Surviving Sandra are her children, Carolyn Marie (Darryl Sprague) Miller and David James (Melissa) Miller; grandchildren, Crystal (fiancé, Sean McCoy) Shivlie, Alicia Miller, Marissa (Roy) Kenyon, Shianne (Joshua) Miles; great-grandchildren, Logan Braley, Oliver, Addison, and Hayle Shivlie, McKenzie, Alexander, and Savannah Miles, Matthew and Jordon Kenyon, Annie, Vince, and Gabe Kenyon; sister, Donna Eder; and sister-in-law, Theresa Fox.
A Funeral Liturgy honoring Sandra will be officiated by Deacon Randy Hodge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
