Obituary for Robert "Bob" D. Hoppes

Robert “Bob” D. Hoppes, age 80, of Portland, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. He was born on June 25, 1940, the son of Mathias and Helen (Barker) Hoppes. Bob was a member of St. Patrick Church and the K of C Council #2168. He was the co-founder (1983) and owner of Blundy-Hoppes Tire and Auto Clinic in Ionia and retired after many years there. Bob was a lifelong farmer - a passion he shared with his sons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but his love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Ken Dorin and Charles Diamond. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carmen; children, Gary (Barb) Hoppes, Jeff Hoppes, Jenny (Terry) Frewen, Brad (Kim) Hoppes and Brent (Mandie) Hoppes; grandchildren, Levi (Erin) Beard, Bobbi (Andrew) Schaar and Mathias (friend, Ali) Hoppes; Michael Hoppes, Brady (friend, Peyton) Frewen and Carson Frewen, Aidan and Ethan Hoppes; Peyton, Chase and Cooper Hoppes; great-grandchildren, Gracen and Lucas Schaar and Wyatt, Zoe, and Violet Beard; sisters, Barbara Diamond, Elaine Dorin, and Joan (Gerald) Blundy; special family friend, Marilyn Hackenbruch; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
