Rita Sue Leonard, of Portland, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born on January 2, 1943 in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Carnegie P. and Mickey J. (Cole) Powell. Rita enjoyed crafting and sewing. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends. Rita will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceding Rita in death are her husband, Ronald D. Leonard; her parents; daughter, Judith Lowe; granddaughter, Christina Farrington; great-grandchild, Harlan Rose; brothers, Ronald and Carnegie Powell; and nephew, Ronald Powell, Jr. Surviving are Rita’s daughters, Vonda (Richard) Edmonds, Ronda (Michael) Schafer, and Donna Farrington; grandchildren, Donald Meyers, Mike (Tara) Meyers, Patti (Cody) Creech, Andrew Edmonds, Mandi Schafer, Matthew (Taylor) Schafer, Joseph Leonard, Jessica (Joe) Vanda Voord, Jenifer Delcamp, Jacklynn Farrington, Lee Parkhouse, and Jesse Parkhouse; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Alexis, Cameron, Aleena, George, Makenzie, Cody, Amara, Matthew Jr., Hirro, Stephen, Mitchell, Seth, Brianna, Robert, Shayla, Ali, and Quentin; great-great-grandchild, Novela; sisters-in-law, Judy Greenwood and Becky Larson; and Leonard in-laws, Connie, Dale (Tammi), Ken, Loia, and Donnie (Toni); and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service honoring Rita will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral chapel. Interment will be at Portland Cemetery.
