Obituary for Richard Brandt Lazarus

Richard “Rick” Brandt Lazarus, age 63, of Portland, MI passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 4, 1957, the son of Brandt Lazarus and Jan (Brown) Livingston. Rick was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and also of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the great outdoors along with fishing, hunting, and softball. He loved to garden and spend time with his chickens (yes, I said his chickens). One of his passions was restoring old vehicles with his son, Travis and son-in-law, Matt. He also loved spending time with his children and all of his grandchildren.

Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Jan (Roy George, Sr.) Livingston; brother, Joe Lazarus, grandparents, Clifford and Mary Lazarus and Burton and Marian Brown; and father-in-law, William Schneider. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Connie (Schneider) Lazarus; children, Corrie (Mark) Horton, Kristin (Matt) Vandecar, Travis (Meagan) Lazarus, and their chosen daughter, Edriana Fermin; grandchildren, Joseph and Jonathan Horton, Noah, Brantley, and Everly Vandecar, and Liam and Vera Lazarus; father, Brandt (Merry) Lazarus; siblings, Dawn Fletcher, Mary Lazarus, Elizabeth (Edwin) Helms and Laura (Mark) Davis; stepsiblings, Amy (Tim) Rumfield, Roy George (Karen) Livingston, Jr., Carl Eric Livingston and Witt “Matt” Drewyor; mother-in-law, Frances Schneider; several Schneider in-laws; and many special nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E.
