Micheal Dean Bigelow, age 74, of Dorr, Michigan passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born March 17, 1951, in Alma, the son of Richard and Colleen (Throop) Bigelow. He married Jane Ann Stewart on August 24, 1974. He retired from Wolverine Power Supply after many years of service as an electric generator operator.
Mike was a hard worker beginning at the Phelps Lumber Yard in Vestaburg. He then worked for C&B Silo Company in Charlotte building farm and industrial silos. Mike often took his family for rides to show them the silos that he helped build along with many of his friends and family.
Mike was a cheerful person who enjoyed many activities with his wife, sons, daughter-in-law, family and friends. His favorite activities included riding his motorcycle and quad, bowling, camping in a pup tent or his motorhome and hunting at the Vestaburg Hunting Club near Ontonagon in the Upper Peninsula. He spent many weekends at the Throop property near Leota, in Winterfield Twp, Clare County, MI. Mike always loved getting together with friends for a morning cup of coffee. He also loved watching the Tigers baseball games along with the basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, and football games of his nieces and nephews. He shared many happy memories of his high school years at Vestaburg and his life in the community.
Micheal is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Bigelow of Dorr; two sons Robert (Betty Eyer) Bigelow of Howard City, Michael Bigelow of Otsego; and his siblings Steven (Marguerite) Bigelow, Cheryl (Don) Rice, Richard (Denise) Bigelow. He loved his many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great great niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard "Nick" Bigelow and Colleen Joyce Throop Bigelow.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ferris Church of Christ, 3443 N. Crystal Rd, Vestaburg, MI on Saturday, March 29 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Dar Blanshan officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the church. Micheal has been cremated, and his remains will be buried at Richland Twp Cemetery immediately following the celebration of life service. A luncheon will immediately follow the graveside service back at the Ferris Church of Christ. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Vestaburg Community Schools in care of their Sports Hall of Fame.
