Mathius Cross, 21, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply and will carry his memory with them always.
Mathius had a quiet, beautiful way of showing up for people. He was kind in a way that felt genuine and effortless, always putting others before himself without hesitation. His heart was big, his intentions were pure, and the care he gave to those around him left a lasting mark that will never be forgotten.
He found happiness in the simple things that brought him peace—losing himself in Japanese anime, spending hours playing computer games, and caring for his beloved cats. These weren’t just hobbies; they were part of who he was, little pieces of joy that made him feel at home in the world.
One of the most meaningful parts of Mathius’s life was the deep bond he shared with his grandparents, Jeanine and Calvin Cross. Their connection was something truly special—built on love, trust, and unwavering support. Mathius was always there when they needed him, whether it was to listen, to help, or simply to be present. He never saw showing up for family as an obligation, but as something that brought him genuine happiness. That steady love and devotion will be remembered and cherished forever.
Mathius also shared a close and meaningful relationship with his siblings. Whether it was through laughter, shared interests, or simply spending time together, those bonds were an important part of his life. He cared deeply for each of them and valued those connections in a way that will continue to live on in their hearts.
Mathius will be remembered for his warmth, his loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried with him every day. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave so freely and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Clarence and Ardine Robbennolt, Clare and Margaret Cross, Rex and Freida Bennett, and his cousin, Levi Spear. He is lovingly remembered and survived by: his mother, Renota; his father, Clayton; his brothers, Chrystian, Michael, Jayden, and Noah Cross; his sisters, Bella Cross and Brooklynn Bowers; his grandparents, Jeanine and Calvin Cross and Dorinda and Robert Martin; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will cherish his memory always.
The family of Mathius invites all who knew and loved him to attend a funeral service in his honor.
A rosary will be held on Friday, May 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St Patrick Church in Portland, MI. Immediately following will be a funeral mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. Following the committal service, a reception will take place at Jeanine and Calvin Cross’ home located at 14367 McCrumb Road, Eagle, MI.
Mathius may be gone from our sight, but he will never be gone from our hearts. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
