Obituary for Marilyn Lee (Smith) Fedewa
Marilyn Lee Fedewa, age 88, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Portland passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024. She was born on August 6, 1935 in Lansing, the daughter of Nelson and Anna (Szedlak) Smith the third of fifth children. Marilyn was raised in Lansing and she graduated from Resurrection High School in 1954. She married Richard L. Fedewa at Holy Cross Church in 1957. They moved to Portland where they lived and raised their family until 1990. She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, and Christmas was her favorite season of the year. She often would make dozens of sugar cookies and her family always looked forward to Christmas dinner.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 2004; brother, Robert Smith; sister, Louise Hamilton; in-laws Donald Hamilton, Betty Smith, Elmer, Frances, Don, Maxine, Robert, Henry, Lorena, Herb, and Geri Fedewa, Helen and Charles Snell, and Al and Eileen Bednarz. Surviving are her six children, Brenda (Roger) Shaffer, Lori (Lawrence) Heilbronn, Kathy Strodtbeck, Becky (Rob) Wizorek, Mike Fedewa, and Doug (Lisa) Fedewa; 17 grandchildren, Nathan (Gina), Justin, Sarah, Adam, Erica, Gary, Mikayla, Charles, Jared, Chelcey, Sierah, Shelby, Delaney, Emily, Ty, Aaron, and Kendra; 15 great-grandchildren, Cora, Harrison, Eathan, McKenzie, Brooklyn, Serenity, Bella, Carson, Shevelle, Blakelyn, Skylar, James, Adelae, Teagan, Ruger, and the 16th on the way; sister, Patricia (Ken) Carter; brother, Darwin (Camella) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be to CorsoCare Hospice or to The National Kidney Foundation in memory of Marilyn.
