Marian Hoppes was a proud daughter of Appalachia with deep West Virginian roots and pride. Prior to having children, Marian helped care for her siblings, with love and veracity. When she moved to Michigan and started her family, she brought her southern Appalachian traditions with her and became a strong matriarch of her family. She married Joe Hoppes in 1987 and never looked back. Together they built a life upon shared family values and a deep love for one another. They enjoyed being in bowling leagues together, softball games at Powers Park, and sitting on the porch together talking about life.
Once Marian had children, she became a fierce supporter and advocate in all her children were and all they did. The pride she felt for her children shown through every day, from being the loudest parent in the stands, to watching her children become parents of their own. She was proud every day of the people her children became and continued to become. Marian fiercely loved and adored her grandchildren, and through that love grew a deep and strong bond with each of them. She wore the title of “Mae Mae” like a badge of honor and enjoyed making Christmas cookies every year with them and talked about them to anyone and everyone with joy and admiration.
Marian lived her life through love. She regularly brought in and cared for animals in need from bunnies to dogs. And was a person of support and guidance to everyone she loved. Marian is beyond loved and missed by all. Her time here on earth was cut way too short, but her fierce spirit, unconditional love, and words of love and encouragement will continue to echo through the hearts of everyone who knew her. And the memories Marian created with everyone in her life will be cherished to no end.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hoppes; her parents, Posey Martin, Judy and Joe Cline; her sister, Patricia Martin; her in-laws, Jim and Sharon Hoppes; and brother in-laws: Chuck Miller and Herb Platte.
She is survived by her sons: Grant (Nicole) Hoppes and Jim (Cameron) Hoppes; her daughter: Catie Hoppes; stepson: Jeremy Hoppes; and grandchildren: Brooklyn Hoppes, Philomena (Minnie) Mauren, Xzavier and Divonté Hoppes, and Bryce and Payton Hoppes.
