Lyle Oliver Braley, of Portland, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 6, 2023, at the age of 88. Lyle was born on November 7, 1934, in Edmore, MI to John and Madge (Brokaw) Braley. Lyle was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the Lansing School District in 2000, after many years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars for everyone.


Preceding Lyle in death are his parents; son, David Braley; and six sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Judy Braley; daughters, Irene Braley of Portland and Lisa (Lee) Ingraham of Saranac; sons, William Braley of Portland and Patrick (Teresa) Braley of St. Johns; grandchildren, Crystal Shivle, Andrea Braley, Samantha Knight, Alicia (Brian) Spier, Caleb Heifner, Sasha Heath, Ashton Braley, and Victoria Braley; and 12 great-grandchildren.


The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
