Obituary for Larry Lee Gilmore
Larry Lee Gilmore, of Portland, an amazing husband to his late wife, loving father to his 5 kids and “Dump” to his 16 grand kids, passed away on July 4th, 2023 at the age of 67. He was born on September 21, 1955 to Genevieve Beech and Rex Gilmore, one of 4 children.
Larry married the love of his life, Elaine on August 1, 1981. He graduated from Portland High School Adult Education. Larry was a member of the Portland Cruisers and he loved driving and working on his old cars. Larry retired from East Jordan Iron Works in Sunfield, MI after 27 years and was known as a hard working man and supporting his family was his top priority.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Elaine (Hartwick) Gilmore; parents, Rex Gilmore and Genevieve and Donald Smith; infant granddaughter, Kaitlin Elaine Huff; son-in-law, Casey Gloden; brother, Stanley Smith; infant sister, Bonnie Smith and his in-laws, Mel and Jeanette Hartwick. Larry is survived by children, Troy (Chantelle) Hartwick, Bonnie Smith, Beth (Rick) Powers, Stacy Gilmore (Gabe) and Lori (Brady) Hall; sisters, Connie (Larry) Kenyon and Dawn (Bob) Lumbert; grandchildren, Natalie (Forrest) Wood, Tracy Ray, Jason (Dominique) Arrell, Sherri, Chase and Tori Arrell, Ian, Jesse, and Cameron Schneider, Ajay and Collin Huff, Trevor Gloden, Ricky Powers IV, Lotus and Xavier Burhans and Elizabeth Powers; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and tons of family and great friends Mike Tackett, Roger Austin and Keith Ross who were like family.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the Portland Conservation Club where memories and stories will be shared and to remember a great man.
