Julie Ann Leonard, of Portland, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025 at the age of 75. She was born in Portland to Julius and Julia (Feldpausch) Smith on June 11, 1949.
Julie was a gifted cook and baker, best known for her delicious sour cream cookies and homemade bread. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—reading a good book, playing cards, and watching the squirrels in her yard. Above all, Julie cherished her family and friends, holding a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Preceding Julie in death are her parents, Julius and Julia Smith; brothers, John, Bill, Leo, Richard, Chuck, and George Smith; and sisters, Rita Scheurer, Viola Dutcher, and Rosemary Simon. Surviving Julie are her beloved husband of 55 years, Daniel Leonard; children, Jason (Kimberly) Leonard, Jarrod (Brenda) Leonard, Susan Leonard, and Jennifer (Roy) Thomas; grandchildren, Christian, Brady, Kyle, Ryan, Amber, Anna, Noah, and Savannah; sisters, Helen Simon, RuthAnn Hengesbach, and Jean VanOsteran; brother, Joe Smith; special great-niece, Helen Brayman; and mother-in-law, Geneva Leonard.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 3-7 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Robert Beckett at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at North Eagle Cemetery.
