Obituary for Julie Ann (Peake) West

Julie Ann West, 62, of Lansing, loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home on April 18, 2021. She was born in Portland, Michigan, the daughter of Wilbur and Mary (Simon) Peake. Julie was a member of the Portland High School Class of 1976 and went on to become the valedictorian of her graduating class at Olivet College. Julie was soft-spoken and had the kindest heart; she would do anything for anyone, no questions asked. She gave all that she had to others and made sure everyone was always well taken care of. Julie was an elementary teacher at St. Patrick Catholic School for a number of years and then went on to work at the Women’s Shelter and Jackson Hewitt in Lansing. Julie loved life and even more so, she loved her dogs. She enjoyed spending time at her cottage at Houghton Lake, reading, and knitting.

Preceding Julie in death are her parents, Wilbur and Mary Peake; sister, Cindy Peake; nephew, Justin Leyrer; and father-in-law, William West. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Doug West; sister, Betty (Michael) Leyrer; niece, Heather (Robert) Wiborn; nephew, Brandon (Emily) Leyrer; mother-in-law, Helen West; sister-in-law, Elaine Hess; and brother-in-law, Patrick (Tricia) West.

The Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Interment will follow at Danby Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
