Obituary for Joseph Anthony Pung, Sr.

Obituaries

Joseph Anthony Pung, Sr., age 81, of Portland, passed away at his home on March 14, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 6, 1941, the son of Louis J. and Florence L. (Miller) Pung. Joe was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #2168. He was a hard-working, lifelong farmer and a Portland Township Trustee for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joe will be missed by all who knew and loved him.


Preceding Joe in death are his parents and brother, William Pung. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jeanette (Thelen) Pung; children, Joe (Shelly) Pung, Jr., Timothy (Angela) Pung, Judy (Erich) Fleischer, Linda (Scott) Schrauben, and Amy (Todd) LaJoy; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings, Sr. Mary Pung CSJ, Lawrence (Ann Marie) Pung, Therese Pung, Paul (Linda) Pung, James (Sharon Ward) Pung, and Anthony (Dianne) Pung; many Thelen in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.


The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Joe’s nephew, Fr. Karl Pung at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 3:30 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
