John D. Jenkins III of Portland passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on August 23, 1943 in Flint, Michigan to John “Jack” and Donna (Yeomans) Jenkins. He enjoyed many activities including gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, trapping, attending bluegrass music festivals, playing music with friends, visiting casinos, and traveling with his sweetheart Marilyn. Together they visited all 50 states.
John worked seven years in retail grocery, advancing from clerk to manager. He then spent thirty-one years in building trades as a carpenter, millwright, licensed builder, and inspector. Additionally, he owned a party tent rental business and served as past president of the Building Officials Conference of Michigan. John was also a U.S. Army paratrooper.
John is survived by his friend and life partner Marilyn (Huhn) Selden, his children John (Tina), Terri (Charley), Tracy (Kelly), Jina (Cory), Jason (Jackie), stepchildren Eric, Cheri, Jessica (Jeff), 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 siblings.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 East Bridge Street, Portland with Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson, presiding.
