With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jean Louise Esterline, who entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on December 2, 1935, in Portland, Michigan, to John and Beulah Mellstead, Jean developed a lifelong love of learning and education. She went on to build a successful career with Foremost Insurance, where she faithfully worked until her retirement.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John and Beulah Mellstead; her beloved husband, Earl Esterline; her daughter, Charlene; and her great-granddaughter, Artavia.
She leaves behind her children Tom (Robin) Esterline, Louis (Mary) Esterline, and Scott Esterline. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Brad (Lisa), Lindsay, Amanda (Corey), Nicole (Shane), Colin (Megan), Shane (Taylor), Tiana, Jasmine, and Tristan.
Jean was also blessed with many cherished great-grandchildren, including Hailey, Grace, Isaiah, Hannah, Josalyn, Jadyn, Annika, Jase, Lilly, Ryker, Rylie, Rhett, Waylon, Dalton, Landon, Kevin, and Jiniya.
Jean was a dedicated and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. She rarely missed a celebration, sporting event, performance, birthday, or milestone, always making it a priority to show up for the people she loved. She took a genuine interest in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, asking thoughtful questions, celebrating their accomplishments, and offering encouragement through every season of life. Her family always knew they were deeply loved, supported, and prayed for.
Above all else, Jean loved Jesus Christ with all of her heart. Her faith was not simply something she believed, it was something she lived every day. She was devoted to sharing God’s love with everyone she met and was passionate about planting seeds of faith wherever she went. Jean faithfully attended the United Methodist Church of Lowell, where she participated in the women’s group and found great joy in worship and fellowship.
Her servant’s heart extended throughout the community through her volunteer work with Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM). Jean believed in helping others and living out the love of Christ through action. Whether through volunteer work, encouragement, prayer, or simple acts of kindness, she made people feel seen, valued, and loved.
Jean took tremendous pride in her home and yard. Landscaping was one of her greatest joys, and she spent countless hours creating beautiful outdoor spaces that reflected her creativity and care. During the Christmas season, her home became a local attraction as she filled her yard with dazzling lights and decorations that brought joy to all who passed by.
A sharp mind and engaging personality allowed Jean to connect with people from all walks of life. She was intelligent, quick-witted, and could carry on a conversation with just about anyone. She loved reading, creating artwork on her phone, and collecting turquoise jewelry. Alongside her husband Earl, she pursued a lifelong dream of traveling across the United States, visiting nearly every state and embracing the beauty and wonder of God’s creation. She believed there was so much of the world to see and experience and was always eager for the next adventure.
Jean also loved gathering family and friends around her table. She had a special gift for hospitality and found joy in making others feel welcome, comfortable, and loved. Whether hosting a holiday meal, sharing stories, or simply opening her home to those in need of friendship, she made every person feel important.
Jean dedicated her life to making others feel seen, valued, and loved. Through her unwavering faith in Christ, her servant’s heart, and her genuine interest in others, she left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a reflection of God’s love, and she worked tirelessly to make His presence known in the world around her.
While her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in knowing that the faith Jean so boldly shared throughout her life has now become sight. She is now home with her Savior, reunited with Earl, Charlene, Artavia, and the loved ones who have gone before her.
Her legacy of love, kindness, faith, and service will continue to live on through her family and the countless lives she touched.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
