Obituary for James Oliver Lemmon
In loving memory of James “Jim” O. Lemmon, born December 17, 1941, who departed us too soon on May 20, 2024. Jim’s life is one of unwavering love, steadfast friendship, and has left a profound impact on his family and friends.
At his side for 55 remarkable years was his cherished wife and best friend, Regina R. Lemmon (Jolls). Together they had two beloved children Christopher J. Lemmon (wife, Amy Smitter) and Jennifer S. Lemmon. Though preceded in death by granddaughter Alexandria N. Ulrich, Jim’s spirit continues to thrive in the hearts of his adored granddaughters, Felicia A. Lemmon and Paige J. Lemmon, as well as his loveable great grandchildren. He was also deeply loved and cherished by his many family members and friends. Jim relished being an honorary grandpa to several exchange students through the years.
A true son of Portland, Michigan, Jim dedicated over four decades to work at Portland Products and served his country in the Army National Guard.
Jim’s true legacy lies in the lives he enriched, with his unwavering support, quick wit, and profound affection. His family members remember him as a patient and gentle partner, father, uncle, and grandfather who was ever-present for both the mundane and momentous occasions such as family, friends, school, and sporting events. They also will remember him for savoring pies homemade by four generations of his family. Jim’s circle of friends and community in Portland and the Portland Methodist Church held a special place in his heart. While his words may have been few, his perfectly timed dry humor brought laughter to gatherings, leaving an indelible mark on all who enjoyed his company.
His diverse interest and passions reflected the richness of his mind and character. His many hobbies included: expert woodworking, bowling, golf, model trains, drawing, music, collections of sports cards, die cast cars, wheat pennies, Hallmark sports ornaments and Vaseline glass. Jim also enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, NASCAR, and Spartan sports. He loved western movies, histories, and books. In his younger years he enjoyed drag racing and working on cars with his friends. His zest for learning new things and gaining skills was infectious.
In a playful nod to his cherished bond with his granddaughters, the family invites you to wear crazily decorated socks to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Portland Community Fund. Contributions may be made by mail, Attn: Jim Lemmon Memorial, P.O.
