Obituary for Gertrude Ann (Fedewa) Sonday

Gertrude Ann Sonday, age 85, of Portland, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 21, 2020 with her family surrounding her. She was born in Westphalia, Michigan on September 29, 1935, the daughter of Charles and Theresa (Bohr) Fedewa. She was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Gert loved the Detroit Tigers, no matter what the circumstances. She also enjoyed watching MSU Basketball. However, her favorite sporting events to watch were whenever her grandchildren were playing. She was a big fan of John Wayne and Western movies. Gert loved the time she spent camping with her family over the years and her most cherished activity was sitting right on her the porch at home.

Preceding Gert in death are her parents; beloved husband of nearly 62 years, Gerald Sonday; sister, Mary (Joe) Pohl; and in-laws, Robert (Rita) Sonday, Rita (Tom) Mason, and Leon “Pete” (Alice) Sonday. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Doug) Stedman, Dave (Lisa) Sonday, Dan (Donna) Sonday, Mike (Stacie) Sonday, and Kim (Nick) Weller; grandchildren, Kristin Stedman, Jessica (Shane) Johnson, Rachel (Brendan) Cissel, Kevin Sonday, Olivia Sonday, Anna Sonday, Ben Sonday, Emma Weller and Hannah Weller; great-granddaughter, Kara Stedman; brother-in-law, Jim (Marsha) Sonday; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 11:45 a.m. with visitation to follow until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School or the St. Patrick Athletic Association in honor of Gertrude. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
