Obituary for Doris Ann (VanAmburg) Babbitt

Doris Ann (VanAmburg) Babbitt, age 92 – lifetime resident of the Eagle/Portland area, passed away peacefully surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Doris was born October 8, 1929 to Clarence and Clela (Williams) VanAmburg. She attended Portland High School and married her high school sweetheart, Richard Babbitt who preceded her in death on May 25, 2010. Doris was a life member of the Portland United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was employed by the Portland Public School District at Westwood Elementary School. Doris enjoyed painting with oil on canvas or anything that was available, including the cowbell that rang at many football games. Her passion was making countless, wonderful memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She even had an unofficial after school daycare for the middle school great-grandchildren for a few years. Doris is survived by son, Timothy Babbitt; daughter, Linda (Randy) Sandborn; sister, Lois Smith; sisters-in-law, Nelva Sherman and Joann Babbitt; grandchildren, Wendy (Damon) Mallek, Nick (Jenny) Sandborn, Casie (Douglas) Hansel, Kurt (Sarah) Sandborn, and Emily (Tom) McIntire; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. A special thank you to the girls that took such loving care of our Mom and Grandma at the Portland Assisted Living and Memory Center and also Kelly at Heart to Heart Hospice. Doris defeated Alzheimer’s and is now the victor!!! She will always remain in our hearts as we rejoice that she is with Jesus and reunited with her husband and many family and friends that greeted her upon her arrival in heaven.
