Carla Marie Hansen, aged 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27th, 2026. Born in Lansing, MI, Carla dedicated her life to helping others, working as a paraprofessional with special education students.

Carla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, William Hansen. She was a loving mother to her son, Robert Birman, and a caring stepmother to Lisa Byers. Carla took great pride in her family and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren Richard, Reigne, Madison, and Ayden. Her joy grew even greater with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Holly, Hope, and Malcolm, who brought endless smiles to her heart.

Carla's compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others were evident through her involvement in her community. She had a generous heart and found joy in caring for both people and animals. An avid animal lover, Carla shared a special bond with her beloved Chihuahua, Chico, who was a constant source of companionship and happiness.

Known for her quick wit and sassy personality, Carla had a way of making people smile and keeping those around her on their toes. Affectionately known as "Hurricane Carla," she had a larger than life presence that could light up a room. She spoke her mind with confidence, had a wonderful sense of humor, and never hesitated to tell it like it was. Her spirited nature, infectious laughter, and unforgettable personality were just a few of the many qualities that made her so deeply loved and impossible to forget.

Carla embraced life's simple pleasures. She loved playing bingo, trying her luck with lottery scratch-off tickets, playing cards with family and friends, and, above all, spending precious time with her great-granddaughters. Those moments brought her endless joy and created memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Carla's legacy of love, kindness, strength, and laughter lives on through the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held in her honor from 11:00-1:00 pm on Monday, June 29, 2026. This will be conducted at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 East Bridge St. Portland, Michigan.
