Born into this world 8 April 1968 to an Army Veteran and a farmers daughter. He began his path of service by attending Immaculate Heart of Mary through grade 5. When a family move in 1980 occurred, St. Gerard is where the religious education continued through their CCD program. Al graduated from Lansing Waverly High School in June of 1986. Somehow Al managed to graduate from Central Michigan University in May 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
His first career type job had him working in Conway, South Carolina as a lender. That year and a half gig taught Al to be on his own, and the yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, no ma’am ways of the proper south. A place to where he wanted to return.
His return to Michigan in February 1992 was soon followed by his first taste of residential mortgage lending, his career of 26 years.
Al was reacquainted with Waverly graduate, Sandra Dombroski in May of 1992. They married in June of 1994. Together they brought into this world, Matthew James Stewart and Chris John Stewart. Matthew and Chris remain Al’s best work.
A faithful husband and devoted father, Al so loved being a dad, coach, teacher, and friend.
Never to shy away from work, you could easily find Al cutting wood, splitting wood, hauling wood, stacking wood at home and up north in Montmorency County, Al’s favorite retreat.
Passions Al had included fatherhood, playing basketball, golf, deer hunting, playing cards, baseball card collecting and oddly enough, rental real estate where he provided a supplemental income for over 17 years to him and his family.
His sense of humor was unique. Sayings invented or borrowed from dad’s of friends added to conversations, good times and camaraderie he shared with few.
Al was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his dad, James B. Stewart. Al is survived in death by his son’s, Matthew and Chris; older brother Jim; and loving mom, Jean.
To Mom, I love you.
To Dad, may I soon deal you a Double Pinochle.
To Buddy and Chris, rely on each other for comfort and support. You both will be fine. Live, love, and laugh when times allow. Make time for each other. Please do not cry about my passing. I lived a great life. It is okay to follow your dreams. Don’t allow someone else to be in control of your own happiness. Be careful whom you trust. Very.
