Michigan Athletic Leader Mark F. Holdren to be Honored with National Distinguished Service Award

![]() The National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA), in conjunction with the Michigan High School Coaches Association (MHSCA), is proud to announce that MHSCA Executive Secretary Mark F. Holdren will be formally recognized with the National Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious honor will be celebrated at the upcoming MHSCA program scheduled for September 27, 2026.
The National Distinguished Service Award is given annually to recognize individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the advancement of interscholastic athletics and leadership at both the state and national levels.
A Lifetime of Leadership and Mentorship: Mark F. Holdren’s career reflects more than four decades of profound dedication to education and athletics as a teacher, counselor, coach, and organizational leader. His leadership philosophy—rooted in fundamentals, discipline, and character—has helped build programs defined by sportsmanship, unity, and personal growth.
Throughout his extensive career, Holdren has left an enduring impact across the athletic landscape: Statewide Stewardship: Devoted more than three decades of leadership to the Michigan Wrestling Association, serving as Membership Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President, Hall of Fame Chair, Clinic Chair, and Executive Director.
MHSCA Governance: Served the broader coaching community as Wrestling Representative, Executive Board member, President, and Executive Secretary with responsibilities for both financial oversight and the Hall of Fame.
National Impact: Represented Michigan for more than a decade at the NHSACA and on the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors (NOCAD) Executive Board, helping shape national policy and expand professional development.
Local Legacy: Played a pivotal role in major community initiatives, including the development of Portland’s first dedicated wrestling facility.
Holdren’s distinguished service has been recognized through induction into multiple Halls of Fame, including the MHSCA Hall of Fame, the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall of Fame, the Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame, the Portland Hall of Fame, and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Michigan Chapter), where he received the Lifetime of Service Award.
