Local Author to speak at Congregational Church on July 23rd

Tom Huggler, author of THE WOMAN SHE LEFT BEHIND, returns to First Congregational Church in Portland on Thursday, July 23, to share "the rest of the story," about Rachel Barnum (1822-1918), the widowed Sunfield Township pioneer farm wife who traveled alone through a Missouri battlefield in search of her dying son during the Civil War.

The free, follow-up event, from 7 to 8 pm, includes questions and answers about how and why Rachel took such risks and what other challenges she navigated during a long life that lasted nearly 96 years.
