Library News
I’m not sure that people think “Library” when they think “Trick or Treat” but we are actually the perfect stop to work into your route. Not only do we always have candy to give away, but we also have clean, warm bathrooms to use. And we love to see all the costumes! So stop at the library on Halloween night between 6:00 and 8:00.

Have some spooky fun at the Portland District Library on Friday, October 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. during our Haunted Harvest Carnival! This all-ages event requires a ticket for entry, which can be picked up at the Youth Desk starting Monday, October 9. Ticket times include: 6:00, 6:20, 6:40, and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are first come, first served; there are a limited number available for each time slot. Dress in your favorite costume, trick-or-treat throughout the library, see what your future holds, spin the prize wheel, and more. Don’t forget to redeem your ticket punches for prizes before heading home!
Quilling Club
Have you ever heard of Quilling? It is the art of using strips of paper that are rolled, looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create different shapes, and glued together to create decorative designs. Quilling designs can be used to decorate greeting cards, pictures, boxes, and more. The library is starting a drop-in quilling club in October, which will meet on the second Wednesday of each month—October 11 and November 8—from 6:30-7:30. We’ll work on our projects together, show each other new techniques we've learned, and share ideas.
3D Printing for Absolute Beginners
Are you curious about 3D printing, but can’t tell a filament from file cabinet? On Wednesday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. we will be covering the very fundamentals of 3D printing. No complicated design techniques, no technical jargon, just learning the steps needed to find and submit a 3D print job at the library. Ages 12 and up, registration is required.

Murder In The Stacks
Autumn at the library can be a relaxing time of year… until someone turns up dead. In another classic case of whodunit, Murder in The Stacks is back at the Portland District Library! This all-ages, month-long murder mystery program will have you searching the library for clues, unlocking suspect interview videos, and collecting evidence. There are key witnesses and multiple suspects, but someone is lying. Do you have what it takes to figure out who? Put on your thinking caps and head to the library starting Friday, November 3. Patrons will have until Saturday, December 2 to collect their evidence and take a guess at who committed the crime and why. One lucky sleuthing team will go home with a grand prize fit for only the best detectives!
