Lady Raiders win District Championship with win over Lansing Catholic
On Friday night, the Portland High School girls basketball team traveled to Ionia to face Lansing Catholic for the third time of the season, this time in the MHSAA district finals.
The Cougars won the first meeting of the year at Lansing Catholic back on January 14th, 55-52. This was Portland one and only loss of the regular season.
The Raiders would pick up the win at home on February 18th, 53-41, which guaranteed a share of the CAAC White Championship.
On Friday, Lansing Catholic came out of the gates hot and outscored Portland 12-4 in the first quarter of play.
The Raider defense turned up the heat in the remaining three quarters holding the powerful Cougar offensive attack to single digit points each quarter. The Lady Raiders would battle to secure a 45-30 District Championship win.
Portland was led offensively by seniors Ashley Bower with 17 points, and Ava Guilford with 16 points.
Lansing Catholic was led by sophomores Anna Richards with 10 points, and Leah Richards with nine points.

Portland will start regional play on Tuesday when they travel to Tecumseh to face Marshall (16-6) at 5:30 PM. The winner of that game will face the winner of Williamston (17-6) and Chelsea (19-3) on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
