Lady Raiders top Hastings to advance to District Finals

The Portland High School girls basketball team traveled to Lakewood on Wednesday to face the Saxons of Hastings in the District Semi-Finals.


Hastings defeated Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation Academy on Monday 61-16 to advance.


Wednesday's game got off to a slow start with the fist quarter coming to a 2-2 tie, but in the second quarter the Raiders started to build a lead. Portland's offense picked up the pace in the second half of play and Portland defeated Hastings 35-22.


Hastings was led by senior Macy Winegar with nine points.


Sophomore guard Paige Spedoske led the Portland offense with 10 points. Junior guard Ella Gruber added seven points.


Scoring by quarter:

1st - 2nd - 3rd - 4th - Final

Portland 2 - 10 - 12 - 11 - 35

Hastings 2 - 6 - 7 - 7 - 22


Portland advances to the District Finals where they will see a familiar foe in the Bulldogs of Ionia. Ionia defeated Lakewood 54-51.


The Raiders have defeated Ionia twice already this season, 49-19 on January 6th at Portland, and 45-39 on February 10th at Ionia.


The District Final game is scheduled for Friday night at 6:00 at Lakewood. Tickets must be purchased on GoFan.co.
