Lady Raiders defeat State Ranked Fowler
On Monday night, the Portland High School girls basketball team hosted the Eagles of Fowler.
The Fowler squad was ranked #8 in this week’s AP Poll for Division 4 and came into the game with a 7-2 record. Portland entered the game with a 9-2 record.
The Raiders started the game hot and ended the first quarter of play with a 12-2 lead.
The gritty and talented Fowler squad bounced back and outscored Portland in the second and third quarters and were in striking distance most of the game, but the Raider defense was able to hold the Eagles to just three points in the fourth quarter and secure a 35-23 victory.
The Lady Raiders were led offensively by junior Ashley Bower with 20 points. Junior Alivia Densmore added six points, while senior Ava Gruber added five points.
Fowler was led by junior Mia Riley with eight points and sophomore Emma Riley with six points.

The Lady Raiders improve to 10-2 on the season. With the cancellation of Friday’s scheduled game with Charlotte, Portland was able to add a game to their schedule for Tuesday when they will travel to Grand Rapids Covenant Christian. The Chargers of Covenant Christian are 5-3 on the season.
On Saturday, Portland will travel to Haslett. The Vikings are 9-1 and currently #2 in the Lansing area power rankings according to the Lansing State Journal. Portland is currently #5 in the same power rankings.
