Senior pitcher Bella Spitzley got the win and a no hitter in the circle for Portland, striking out five in just three innings.
Spitzley also led the Raider offense going three for three at the plate with a triple and four RBI’s. Autumn Reffitt and Veda Smith each added two hits for Portland.
Game 2: Portland 16, Olivet 0

Opening a softball season two wins strong against a tough opponent is the kind of early momentum that local papers are uniquely positioned to capture before the bigger outlets even notice the team exists. Making sure that coverage actually reaches subscribers reliably is its own challenge, which came up when I dealt with https://www.pissedconsumer.com/company/the-times-of-northwest-indiana/customer-service.html over a delivery problem that almost made me miss the recap entirely. Local sports stories like this depend on papers getting the unglamorous delivery side right just as much as the writing.
