“Kick for a Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Soccer Game set for September 22nd

Local Soccer Communities Come Together to Raise Awareness, Honor Survivors, and Support Those Affected by Breast Cancer.

Local soccer players, families, and community members will come together under the lights on September 22, 2026 at Unity Field for a special Breast Cancer Awareness Soccer Game carrying the powerful message “Kick for a Cure.”

The event is being organized to bring both communities of Lakewood and Portland together in support of those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. The game will honor those who have fought, celebrate survivors, remember loved ones who have lost, and stand alongside individuals and families who continue to face the disease.

“Breast cancer affects far more than the person who receives the diagnosis – it affects families, friends, and entire communities,” said James LeVeque/Varsity Boys Soccer Coach. “We wanted to create an event where people could come together, show their support, raise awareness, and remind those affected by breast cancer that they are not alone. We are dedicating this year’s event to one of our special soccer moms that has supported and influenced our program for over 10 years. We are honored to donate the money raised from this event to the foundation of her choice in her honor.”

MORE THAN A SOCCER GAME

“Kick for a Cure” is designed to be more than a sporting event. It is an opportunity for the community to come together with hope, unity, awareness, and love while creating an experience that allows everyone in attendance to take part in the cause.

Throughout the event, fans will have several opportunities to show their support and contribute to breast cancer awareness efforts starting with a free-will donation in lieu of an entrance ticket fee into both the JV and Varsity games.

“KICK FOR A CURE” SHIRTS AND HOODIES

Special “Kick for a Cure” shirts and hoodies will be available for purchase. The apparel is being created in partnership with local business Seam Outfitters, helping bring this community project to life. Shirts will be available for pre-sale through Seam Outfitters and a limited number available for purchase at the games.

A portion of the sales from the shirts and hoodies will go towards the cause.

Organizers hope the shirts and hoodies will not only help raise funds, but also allow supporters to carry the message of “Kick for a Cure” with them long after the game is over.

PINK SPIRIT PACK

Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase special “Pink Spirit Packs.” The kits will include light-up wands and additional items designed to help fans show their support and create a sea of pink throughout the event.

The “Pink Spirit Packs” will give spectators a fun and meaningful way to participate while helping support the cause.

“KICK A SHOT” INTERACTIVE CHALLENGE

Fans will also be invited onto the field for an interactive challenge called “Kick a Shot.”

This activity will give community members an opportunity to step onto the field, take their shot, and become part of the action – all while helping support the event’s mission.

HONORING BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening will be the special on-field recognition of breast cancer survivors and those whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

Survivors and current fighters will be recognized on the field before the varsity game as the community comes together to celebrate their strength, courage, perseverance, and journeys.

The event will also provide an opportunity to remember and honor those who have lost their lives to breast cancer and recognize the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Local businesses, community organizations and individuals are being invited to support the event through financial sponsorships or donations of goods and services. Contributions will help with event expenses, awareness materials, activities, and other costs associated with creating a meaningful experience for players, families, survivors, and community members.

Every Contribution Matters

Sponsorships of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, or any amount are welcomed and appreciated.

Supporters will have the opportunity to be recognized during the event and through event materials, where applicable.

A NIGHT OF HOPE, UNITY & REMEMBERANCE

Organizers hope the event will encourage conversations about breast cancer awareness and remind everyone of the importance of supporting those affected by the disease. Community members are encouraged to attend, show their support, and help make this special event a powerful demonstration of what can happen when communities come together for a cause.
