Portland’s Keith Schrauben has been selected as a member of the 2026 class of the MHSFCA Coaches Hall of Fame. To be eligible for this honor, coaches must have a minimum of 20 years of high school coaching in Michigan and/or 100 head coaching wins.
Schrauben has spent the last several years as an assistant coach for the Raider football team. In his 49 years of coaching football, his teams have a combined record of 319 wins and 158 losses according to the association.
He began coaching at Belding in 1975 while completing his student teaching there.
He coached at Lansing catholic for 22 years, from 1978 -1999, serving as head coach from 1994 to 1999. Schrauben was offensive coordinator at LCC in 1985 when they beat St. Ignace 36-6 in the Silver Dome for a State Championship.
Schrauben served on the Portland staff for the first time from 2000-2002.
From 2003-2007 he served as defensive coordinator at Portland St. Patrick.
In 2008 Schrauben returned to Portland where he took over the defensive coordinator role, which he still holds today. He was the defensive coordinator in 2012 when the Raiders won the state championship over West Catholic 12-9 win.
Portland Head Coach John Novara told the Beacon, “Keith is very deserving of this award, he has been an outstanding coach for over 40 years! I have had the pleasure to coach with Keith for many of these years, and he is currently our defensive coordinator. Keith's defenses are continuously well schooled, aggressive, and difficult to crack. We have had many other schools and clinicians reach out to us so that we can help them to install our defense. Keith spends hours and hours on the other teams’ film, and it shows on Friday nights, as we are continuously one of the top defenses in the area. Keith is well respected by the other coaches in the area and is well loved by all that have played for him. I am positive that we wouldn't have the success that we have had without Coach Schrauben in our program.”
Schrauben told the Beacon, “It’s quite an honor to be selected for this recognition which is only made possible by the incredible student athletes I have had the privilege of coaching and the other coaches I have been fortunate to have been associated with over the years.”

The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame officially opened on April 16, 1982. It was a dream that became a reality because of the planning and effort of a committee headed by Ron Holland, Tom Fagan, Chuck Ritter and past MHSFCA presidents.
The Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize the individuals who have made significant contributions to the game of football in the state. These coaches, players, administrators and community members are largely responsible for the legacy that makes Michigan high school football an important part of our state culture.
