Portlander, Michelle Thompson is passionate about sharing good nutrition with people. After her father passed away at a rather young age, she decided to make some lifestyle changes because she wanted to be healthy and live a long life to be there for her children. “I realized there weren’t a lot of options for people dieting on the go so I wanted to offer a healthy “fast food” where people can come in and get the nutrition they need.” Her new shop, Journey Nutrition on Bridge Street in Portland features a wide variety of smoothies and tea bombs for any taste.

The menu features a huge range of specialty smoothies based on vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream, banana, and even coffee. Flavors on the smoothie menu include entries like Cherry Pie, No-bake Cookie, and Cinnabon. Thompson’s favorite is banana cream pie. The smoothies all boast about 24 grams of protein and calorie counts 250 and under.

The tea bomb menu features flavors like Bahama Mamma, and Peachy Keen and is formulated to boost energy and metabolism. A tea bomb, according to Thompson doesn’t taste like tea at all though it does contain caffeine, she says it doesn't give the jitters due to the balanced nutritional content. The sugar-free beverages come in a huge variety. She says she has come up with 150 combinations and loves experimenting coming up with new flavors. Her favorite is called Marilyn Manroe though she is also partial to the eponymous Chelle Bomb, which is not on the menu, but a favorite among regulars. “I know everyone by name when they come in. It’s a small town; you get to know people,” Thompson says.

In addition to healthy beverages, she also sells a variety of pre-workout/post-recovery beverages and healthy snacks. The shop is not just a place to grab a great-tasting nutritious smoothie or tea, it is also a retailer for Herbalife nutritional supplements and protein powders so you can make smoothies or tea bombs at home or on the go

The business also hosts pound fitness classes. The high-energy exercise class features drumming and exciting rhythm. The classes meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are led by instructor Tina Miller. “It's great for mind, body, and soul,” says Thompson. In the future, Thompson and Miller are excited to expand exercise class option offerings in the downtown cafe/studio space.

Love seeing more healthy options like this popping up in town! Smoothies and recovery drinks can be such a game-changer for athletes who need quick, balanced fuel. For swimmers in particular, supplements can play a big role in performance and recovery – from omega-3s for joint health to electrolytes for hydration. This guide on the top supplements for swimmers breaks down what actually works and how to use them safely. Might be a helpful resource for anyone looking to get the most out of their training.
