Jessie Whitford Named March Student-Athlete of the Month
Jessie Whitford, a senior on the Portland High School bowling team, has been selected as the Portland Beacon and J-Dubb’s Signature Subs Student-Athlete of the month for March 2022.
In his nomination, PHS girls bowling coach Joe Whitford said, “Jessie was the captain of the high school bowling team. She stepped in at matches and tournaments when needed to win. As a senior her goal was to make sure she made it to the state finals, and that is exactly what she did. Matter of fact she set a record as she is the only Portland High School girl bowler that has made it to the state finals every year!”
For the 2021-2022 season, the PHS girls team went undefeated 10-0 in league play and were CAAC league champs for the fifth straight season.
Whitford’s individual awards this year include:
Team High Average
Team High Score
Team High Series
Most Valuable Player
CAAC All-Conference
CAAC All-Academic
