Epic Community Church
Epic Community Church has had an important presence in Portland since 2006.
Launched as a plant of Impact Church of Lowell, it is affiliated with the Wesleyan Denomination. Melanie Pierce serves it as associate pastor. She was trained and made a minister by the Wesleyans.
“The most satisfying aspect of my ministry is sharing hope with people,” said Melanie. “Our hope means everything to us.”
The congregation has seventy-three members.
“Our church believes that many people aren’t being reached by traditional church,” said Melanie. “So we focus on being relevant to people’s everyday needs. We also offer contemporary Christian music at our Sunday gatherings. Our mission is such that we seek to reach people where they are at and in so doing, we minister to them in an effective way.”
Epic Church believes that it has a responsibility to help fill needs in the community.
“We recently were told that the local schools were in great need of substitute teachers,” said Melanie. “So we put out the word to our body about this need and we were able to furnish fifteen people from our congregation to work as substitutes in the school systems.”
Epic Church is a member of the Portland Ministerial Association.
“We partner with the association and this has been key in serving the community,” said Melanie. “The association provided a strong response to the tornado that swept through Portland several years ago. We also have a compassion fund that the member churches manage together. This fund helps people in various needs such as with rental assistance,” she said.
Melanie feels strongly about the importance of helping people in Portland.
Our mission is to love and to care for people,” she said. “We want people to know that God loves and cares for them, too.”
