Early College Recognition Night
On June 2nd, Portland High School celebrated 21 students who completed the Portland Early College Program. All students in the early college program are on a 5-year track and have the opportunity to earn up to an associates degree upon graduation.
This year's cohort produced 14 associate degrees from Lansing Community College and 7 Michigan Early Middle College Association Certificates. The 21 students earned a combined 1,139 credits and saved roughly $260,000 on college tuition (based on the average rate of Lansing Community College tuition).
"This is an amazing opportunity for the students at Portland High School. All of these students worked extremely hard, and all of them have saved a significant amount of money on their higher education" Jason Haid, Post Secondary Coordinator.
The program was implemented four years ago and it continues to grow. The Portland Early College Program has approximately 140 students in grades 9-12. If your child is interested in information about the program, contact Jason Haid, Post-Secondary Coordinator at Portland High School.
