Brightest of Gifts Coming to Downtown Portland for HolidayFest
In the heart of mid-Michigan, the small town of Portland is preparing to reveal something truly spectacular. HolidayFest has been a traditional celebration in Portland’s historic downtown for decades. This year promises something extra special, that will delight everyone in attendance.
Thanks to the generosity and vision of local business and property owners, this historic town will offer a unique addition to the entire holiday season, bringing an added warmth to the long winter nights we have ahead of us.
The support from local business and property owners in the revitalization of this historic small town cannot be overstated. Their commitment to improving the community and preserving its rich history is truly commendable. By investing their time, resources, and expertise, these individuals are playing a vital role in the town's transformation. Not only are they enhancing the physical aesthetics of the town, but they are also creating opportunities for economic growth and attracting visitors.
Tina ConnerWellman, Executive Director for MI Portland Downtown Development stated, “This year’s holiday gift from these business and property owners is a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. Through their collective efforts, this small town is being revitalized, ensuring a bright future for generations to come.”
The project, spearheaded by Timothy Fuller, President of Opera Block Properties, involves 32 buildings, 14,000 feet of cabling, and 17 computers. It encompasses the majority of the historic district, with projected costs exceeding $35,000. All labor costs have been completely donated by Opera Block Properties, lowering the cost of participation for local businesses to providing materials and supplies. “Mr. Fuller’s dedication and commitment to fostering a vibrant community spirit has been instrumental in orchestrating this surprise reveal scheduled for HolidayFest, Saturday December ninth” said ConnerWellman.
Portland’s HolidayFest begins at 4pm with the Snowball Toss. Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with their holiday character friends, will be walking around and visiting with guests. Many businesses will be hosting open houses, offering refreshments and activities. Horse and wagon sleigh bell rides will be available for free, with donations accepted. There will also be caroling by Portland Public Schools and dancing in the streets with Opera Block Dance. The Lighted Christmas Parade starts at 6pm with the gift presentation beforehand on the 100 block of Kent St. You can find complete details and other events at miportland.org.
There’s a great deal of anticipation surrounding this year’s HolidayFest, “Get ready for a captivating holiday show, promising an unforgettable experience not to be missed” Tim Fuller offered.
