After tough tough trip to Battle Creek, PHS softball splits with Catholic, sweeps Williamston
Saturday, April 22nd – Gull Lake Invitational at Bailey Park
The Raiders traveled to Bailey Park in Battle Creek to compete in the Gull Lake Invitational.
Game 1: River Valley 10, Portland 5
Sophomore Bailee Fish led the Portland offense going three for four at the plate including a double. Junior Jayden Townsend had a triple. Freshman Claire Lyon and sophomores Gillian Pung and Chloey Page each had one hit for Portland.
Townsend pitched the full game for Portland striking out nine.
Game 2: Harper Creek 10, Portland 2
Townsend pitched the full game striking out two.
Lyon went two for three at the plate. Fish, Pung, sophomore Anna Morris and freshman Veda Smith each had one hit for Portland.
Game 3: Hartford 7, Portland 0
Fish (double), Lyon, Pung, Page, and sophomore Anastasia Seidelman each had a hit for the Raiders.
Townsend was in the circle for Portland striking out five.
Tuesday, April 25th – Lansing Catholic at Portland
The Raiders had their first CAAC White double header of the season when they hosted the Cougars of Lansing Catholic on Tuesday.
Game 1: Lansing Catholic 16, Portland 5
Townsend pitched the full game for Portland striking out four.
Townsend, freshman Lilly Thelen (triple), and Lyon (triple) each had two hits for the Raiders. Freshmen Rylee Miller and Bella Spitzley each had one hit for Portland.
Game 2: Portland 4, Lansing Catholic 3
Lansing Catholic scored in the bottom of the seventh to push this game into extra innings, but the Raiders took the lead in the top of the eighth to get the win.
Spitzley pitched the complete game striking out five.
Pung and Spitzley each had two hits for Portland. Townsend, Miller, and Lyon (double) each had a hit in the game.
Thursday, April 27th – Williamston at Portland
Game 1: Portland 9, Williamston 8
Townsend pitched the first six innings of this contest striking out one, while Spitzley came in to pitch the final inning.
The Raider scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Pung went three for four for Portland. Lyon and Spitzley each had two hits including a double each. Fish took one over the fence for Portland’s first home run of the season. Thelen and Miller each had one hit.
Game 2: Portland 17, Williamston 13
The Raiders blew up in the top of the seventh scoring six runs to take a 17-13 lead.
Sophomore Autumn Reffitt had a home run and went two for five in the game. Townsend and Spitzley added two hits each. Thelen, Fish (double), Lyon, Miller, Morris and Seidelman each had one hit.
Spitzley pitched the full game striking out three.
The Lady Raiders are now 7-9 on the season. Next week they are scheduled to host Ionia on Tuesday and travel to St. Johns on Thursday.
