The Portland Boys Varsity Soccer team took to the field on Saturday for their first game of the 2020 soccer season against Lansing Waverly.

The first half of the game was a stalemate as neither team found the back of the net but both had ample scoring opportunities. Remaining a scoreless game into the first part of the second half Waverly was able to capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities and massed a 0-4 lead with 17 minutes left in the game.

Putting the pressure on the Warriors defense the Raiders continued to create scoring opportunities. The Raiders first goal was scored by freshmen Aiden Pulling on a shot from the 18 yard line. Moments later they were awarded a penalty kick off of a Waverly foul. Sophomore Drew Edick scored on the PK for the Raiders putting them behind by only two goals.

With only a few minutes left in the game sophomore Darrian Pennington was able to dribble pass the Warrior defense and score putting them behind by only one goal. The final score of the game was 3-4. The Raiders next game is this coming Tuesday Sept 22 home against Mason at 5:30pm
