Portland Varsity Volleyball Beats Fowlerville, Securing Second Win in a Row
The Portland Varsity Volleyball team was in action tonight as they hosted the Fowlerville Gladiators. The Raiders won the contest capturing wins in the first, second and fourth sets. Fowlerville held their own against Portland, winning set number 3. However, the Raiders quickness and depth allowed them to bounce back and secure the victory.
Portland hopped on Fowlerville early, taking advantage of their sloppy play. The Gladiators took advantage of some crucial mistakes by the Raiders, and they fought their way back into it. The Raiders denied any sort of comeback, taking set #1 25-12.
The Raiders momentum carried throughout the second set as they stood strong against Fowlerville’s tenacious play. Portland easily took the set, winning 25-14.
Fowlerville didn’t shy away from the challenge as they dominated Portland for the majority of the third set. They did so by controlling the possession. The Gladiators won set #3 by a score of 25-11.
Despite being quite fatigued, the Portland girls dug deep and began set #4 strong, taking a 10-3 lead early. The Raiders stayed consistent throughout the set, pulling out a 25-13 victory.
The girls have high expectations for this season. When asked about their goals, coach Lindsey Brown stated “I have high expectations. We may have a young team, but we have a lot of talent and a lot of potential. I expect us coming out big every game and giving it our all”.
The Raiders have a lot of size and quickness which will lead to a lot of success, however they are working on being more consistent.
